Have you seen a new teacher in the building and wondered who he is? He is Kevin Dumlao, the new sixth grade math teacher. He is taking the place of Allison McLaughlin while she is on maternity leave. She left on December 23 and will return next school year.
Before becoming a math teacher at Patrick M. Villano School, Dumlao worked as a tumbling instructor and a competitive cheerleading coach for nationally ranked teams. He has also taught in Bergenfield and Englewood, New Jersey.
“Villano’s great! I think I’m very lucky to be here. I love the atmosphere. Everyone is very helpful and very kind, and it’s a great place to be,” Dumlao said.
He explained why he became a teacher. “I like working with kids, I love math, and I think it’s a rewarding profession,” he said.
Students have also shared their thoughts about Mr. Dumlao.
“He’s fun, he’s nice, he’s chill, and supportive,” Lyla Distelhurst said.
Evin Shelton also spoke about his experience in class.
“Whenever we’re about to come in the classroom, Mr. D always greets us with a smile on his face, ready to get the day started,” Shelton said. “Even once we get started, he has funny jokes to make us laugh.”
Outside of school, Dumlao said he enjoys photography and videography. He also likes basketball and football, and he participates in track.
