More than 40 years after the first Star Wars movie was released, the series continues to be popular with fans around the world. Star Wars can be watched in theaters, streamed on Disney+, and experienced in Disney theme parks. Some fans celebrate Star Wars Day each year on May 4, also known as “May the Fourth.”
“My favorite character is Baby Yoda. I am really excited to watch the movie, and I pray it doesn’t end off on a cliff hanger,” Dean Vitale, a sixth-grader, said. “My favorite movie is the second movie in the series, and I love to watch it.”
The Star Wars series was created by George Lucas in 1977. The first film, Star Wars: A New Hope, introduced audiences to characters such as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, and Han Solo. Since then, the franchise has expanded into movies, television shows, books, games, and merchandise.
“My favorite character from Star Wars is Han Solo because he learns from his trials and tribulations. He is sarcastic, funny, and relatable,” Erin Amicucci, a fifth-grade teacher, said. “And my favorite movie is the original ‘Star Wars: A New Hope.’”
Some well-known Star Wars characters include BB-8, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Baby Yoda, and Yoda. The franchise continues to grow with new movies and shows being released for fans of all ages. A new Star Wars spin-off movie is expected to be released on May 22, 2026, continuing the story of one of the world’s most popular movie franchises.
