Several new movies are being released this holiday season in theaters. One of the new movies is Wicked: For Good. The movie is based on the popular musical and tells the story of the witches from The Wizard of Oz. It’s a sequel to the first movie called Wicked.
“I liked the Wicked better then Wicked:For Good because it made more sense, and by the second half I wasn’t even paying attention because it was boring. I like Wicked more because the plot went along better, and my favorite part of the movie was in the end when Elphaba sang Defying Gravity.”
The first movie, Wicked, tells the beginning of the story about witches Elphaba and Glinda and how they become friends before The Wizard of Oz. It shows how Elphaba starts to be seen as the Wicked Witch. Wicked: For Good is the second movie and continues the story. It shows what happens after the friends grow apart and how their choices lead to the events of The Wizard of Oz.
“It was way less mushy and I like the singing better. My favorite part of the movie in part 1 was when they danced like at the school when they first walked in and my favorite part for part two was probably when the Scarecrow and Elphaba walked off in the sand.”
Some people said Wicked: For Good focused more on emotional moments and character development rather than fast-paced action.
“I like Wicked the first Wicked more because it was more exciting and it had a lot of scenes and action. Wicked part 2 It was very boring in my opinion and it wasn’t really just for me. My favorite part in the first Wicked movie was when Elphba tries to save the animals.”
The second movie also dives deeper into the consequences of Elphaba being labeled as the Wicked Witch. Viewers see how the Wizard and Madame Morrible manipulate the truth, which helps explain why Oz turns against Elphaba. The special effects, costumes, and sets impressed these students. Even though opinions differ on which movie is better, both films tell stories of friendship, courage, and staying true to yourself.
