Excitement filled the hallway outside the all-purpose room at Patrick M. Villano School during the annual PTA-sponosred book fair. Students explored shelves and tables filled with stationery and books, including bookmarks, pens, pencils, erasers, and much more. Parent volunteers helped students shop and check out. This was the 2026 book fair, and students from all grade levels participated in the event last month. William Gibbons, a sixth grader, went to the book fair.

“I didn’t get anything at the book fair. I was just browsing through,” Will Gibbons, a sixth-grader, said. “I wanted this one book about Spongebob.”

There were a variety of books on display at the book fair, ranging from graphic novels to informational texts. There was also a wide variety of stationery available. Emanuel Fang, a fifth grader, purchased several items from the fair.

“I got a book about fossils turning into crystals and a dragon egg with two erasers inside of it,” Fang said.

Fang later found out that he had won a raffle at the fair. There was a raffle bucket for each grade, and at the end of the day, Fang was announced as the fifth-grade winner. He won a new set of markers and plans to use them often. William Espinoza, a sixth grader, also purchased several books from the fair.

“I got three books including I Survived The Destruction of Pompeii, AD 79, Magnitude, and Deep Secrets. I also got a car pen,” he said.

Scholastic is the company that supplies all the books and items for the fair. According to the Scholastic website, “For more than 100 years, Scholastic Education has remained committed to helping every child reach their full potential through literacy. In that time, the research of how children learn to read has evolved, and we’ve evolved alongside it.”
