As June approaches, the Villano View newspaper club is preparing to wrap up another year of student reporting. Throughout the year, student reporters interviewed classmates, covered school events, and shared stories with the school community. As the club comes to a close for the summer, several student reporters reflected on their experiences and looked ahead to next year. Kristi Allen, a fifth-grade reporter, explained how she feels about the year winding down.
“I kind of feel sad that it’s ending because I had a lot of fun getting interviewed and interviewing people as one of the students in the newspaper club, so I definitely would join next year again,” Allen said. When asked about the club’s accomplishments this year, Allen said, “… I do think we accomplished a lot this year because of everyone working together and interviewing or getting interviews early.”
Allen also reflected on some of the articles published throughout the year. She said she really liked an article called “Ladies’ Night Out” and another that she wrote called “What’s special about Specials Fest?”
Emma Tuazon, also a fifth-grader, shared her thoughts about the end of the Villano View season.
“I feel sad that the Villano View is coming to an end because I had a lot of fun working together with my friends and writing about different topics,” Tuazon said.
Looking ahead, she added: “Yes, I’m excited to join the Villano View next year.”
She also discussed what the club meant to student writers.
“It gave many kids, including me, the opportunity to write about many topics from our point of view and share that point of view with other people,” Tuazon added,
When reflecting on the club’s accomplishments, Tuazon said, “ Yes, it accomplished helping us be better writers while being able to share our thoughts about different subjects.”
Fifth-grader, Riya Shah, explained why she will miss Villano View until next school year.
“I feel a bit sad for the Villano View ending … because I really liked interviewing everybody and working together on articles,” Shah said.
Shah also plans to return to the club.
“I am definitely going to do Villano View again next year,” she added. “I am pretty excited about next year’s Villano View.”
Like many of the student reporters, Shah highlighted the teamwork and interviewing experiences that were an important part of the club this year. The online newspaper club is open to students in fifth and sixth grade.
