What is the holiday that is always celebrated on the third Sunday of June? It’s Father’s Day! Father’s Day is a holiday that honors fathers and father figures. This year, Father’s Day will be celebrated on June 21, 2026, which is also the first day of summer. Many families use this day to show their appreciation through gifts, activities, or simply spending time together.
Hannah Malec, a fifth-grade student, shared how her family celebrates Father’s Day.
“Usually, my mom, my brother, and I sneak out of the house to get my dad gifts and some of his favorite things,” Malec said.
Malec explained that her family lets her dad choose what he would like for dinner or where he would like to go for a special meal.
“My grandparents come to my house, or we go to their house,” Malec said. “Sometimes my uncle and cousins are there, and we get gifts for all the dads and have a special meal together.”
Families celebrate Father’s Day in many different ways. Some go out to eat, while others stay home and enjoy a meal together. Many children make cards or give small gifts to show their appreciation. Even a simple “thank you” can make fathers feel appreciated.
Frankie Santillo, another fifth-grade student, shared some of his family’s traditions.
“The traditions my family has for Father’s Day include going to my aunt’s house, spending time with family, and eating food and cake,” Santillo said.
Santillo also enjoys making a handmade card for her dad.
“My mom, brother, and I order gifts that he will love, like shirts, golf accessories, and coffee mugs,” Santillo said. “We also pick out things my grandpa and uncles like.”
Father’s Day is not only about gifts but also about spending quality time together. Whether families play games, watch movies, or share a meal, these moments help create lasting memories.
Franklin Tiburcio, known as the gym teacher Mr. T, also shared how his family celebrates Father’s Day.
“For Father’s Day, we usually spend time together in the backyard,” he said. “We enjoy having a barbecue, grilling food, and playing fun family games such as dominoes.”
Tiburcio said that his family often plans something special for him each year.
“Most of the time it involves the kids, which makes it even more special,” he said. “They always find a way to make the day memorable.”
The location of the celebration changes from year to year.
“Sometimes we host the celebration at my house, and other times we gather at a family member’s home,” he said. “No matter where we celebrate, it usually includes barbecuing, dancing, spending time together, and a few surprises along the way.”
Tibercio also appreciates the thoughtful gifts he receives.
“My wife is very thoughtful when it comes to gifts and always finds something meaningful,” he said. “Many times the kids are involved in the process as well, which makes the gifts even more special and heartfelt.”
Although each family has its own traditions, they all share the same goal: showing appreciation for the fathers and father figures who make a difference in their lives.
