The NBA Finals are getting closer, and only four teams remain: the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, and Cleveland Cavaliers. According to ESPN, the Oklahoma City Thunder are currently the favorites to win. However, the Cavaliers could still challenge them for the championship.
The Knicks are considered the biggest underdog of the final four teams. They have struggled with injuries and inconsistency this season, but they showed everyone what they can do by sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers.
Emma Tuazon, a basketball follower, shared her opinion.
“So the Knicks is sort of like my family team, so I sort of have to root for them, but if I had to choose I would pick the most aggressive team, so I really I think the Spurs might win, but don’t tell my parents because they are rooting for the Knicks,” Tuazon said.
The Knicks have also been chosen as the favorite team among fifth graders in Emerson, based on informal data collected through a Google Form. Fifty-eight students participated. Out of those fifth grade students, more than half thought the Knicks would win. The Oklahoma City Thunder came in second with 16 votes, or 27.6%. The Spurs were third with 7 votes, or 12.1%. Last were the Cavaliers, with only 3 votes, or 5.2%.
“I believe that the Knicks are the most likely to win with Jalen Brunson starting, but if he gets injured the Knicks will likely lose, but there’s a very low chance of that happening. It also goes the same way for most of the teams with one or two all stars,” Sebastian Spielt said.
Only time will tell which team wins the NBA Finals. For now, many Emerson fifth graders say they are cheering for the Knicks and hoping they can finish their underdog story with a championship.
