Roz the robot made it to local movie theaters last weeked. Roz is the main character in a book series by Peter Brown.
“The Wild Robot was a great movie, and it was very cool and funny,” said Mikey Sugna, a fifth grader at Patrick M. Villano School.
The books are about Roz who was on a cargo ship headed to a big city, but a storm knocked the ship around, and her crate landed on an island. Roz has to survive the wilderness alone on an island far away from anyone or anything. Roz has no clue how she got on the island. Her memory was wiped clean, but she later got her memory back. There’s a lot of action in the movie like a porcupine and bear attack. Roz learns to speak and make friends with the animals on the island. Her first friends are a family of possums who give Roz important advice.
Tina Giovanni saw the movie on its opening weekend at The Theater in Washington Township, New Jersey. She said she wanted to go to the movie because she liked the trailer, and it was her birthday. Lauran Rose who works at concessions said that she has never seen the movie, but she has seen a lot of people come in over the opening weekend.
My thoughts are that the movie was nothing like the book, so I would suggest that you read the book first. I think this because in the book Roz, the robot, makes a garden with a deer. This part of the story was never in the movie. You will also find other differences from the book. This is why I recommend reading the book first. Fifth-grader Leah Gawrylo disagrees. She read the books but enjoyed the movie more.
“Some of the little important details were in the book, so the movie just like brought it to life a bit more,” Gawrylo said.
However, there were some great things. There was a moment when a bear started snuggling with his prey, and the prey made a weird grin and turned his head up and down. Also, another great moment is when Roz remembers her son, Bright Bill.
Rose said the movie made about 35 million dollar across the country its opening weekend.
