Do you know when to correctly use their, they’re or there? This is one common grammar mistake students make. Correcting such grammar mistakes is the focus of National Grammar Day on March 4. Martha Brockenbrough, an author of books for both children and adults, founded National Grammar day as a way to celebrate language. Some grammar rules are harder than others to master.

¨I believe the trickiest grammar rule I know is when to apropriately use a colon or semi-colon,¨ Cynthia Doran said. She is a fourth grade teacher who loves reading and writing.

Meghan Pritchard, the ELA teacher in grade 6, stresses the importance of knowing grammar rules.

¨Students need to know how our language works without the assistance of technology. When we understand the rules, we tend to write better and at a higher level. This is very important.¨ Pritchard stated.
