As the month of April unwinds, the weather starts to warm up, winter is ending, and there are only a few months left of school. One thing many students look forward to is spring break. Aiden Mills, a sixth grade student at Patrick M. Villano School, shared his thoughts about spring break.

“Spring break is a good time to get work off your mind and have no stress,” Mills said. “I try to plan things with friends so I don’t stay on screens all day.”

Spring break takes place every April and usually lasts about one week. However, if there are too many snow days during the winter, the break can be shorter. During this time, students and their families may travel, spend time at home, or relax after months of schoolwork. For some families, it is also a time to celebrate Easter and Holy Week.

“I count down the days until spring break because it gives me more time to relax. I think it’s a great time to go outside and spend time with friends.”

Many students spend their break going outside, hanging out with friends, or taking a break from school responsibilities. It is a time to rest and enjoy free time.

Spring break has an interesting history. According to the Florida Historical Society’s website, it began in the 1930’s when a swim coach from Colgate University took his team to Florida for training. Over time, more students started traveling during this time, and it became a popular tradition across the country. Today, spring break is an important time for students to relax, recharge, and enjoy the spring season.
