The 2026 Winter Olympic Games took place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, from February 6 to February 22, 2026. Athletes from many countries traveled to Italy to compete in winter sports played on snow and ice.
This year’s Olympics were held in several towns in northern Italy instead of one city. The games included many events such as figure skating, speed skating, ski jumping, alpine skiing, snowboarding, curling, and ice hockey, stated the official Olympic website.
Students at Patrick M. Villano School watched some of the events and shared their thoughts. Willam Espinoza, a sixth grade student, said he enjoyed the games.
“I really liked how all the players had a commitment, and my favorite game was hockey where the USA won in overtime,” Espinoza said.
During the Winter Olympics, athletes compete in events that test their skills, training, and teamwork. People around the world watch the games and support their countries.
Hunter Ostroff, a fifth grade student, also watched the games.
“I really liked the skiing part and tricks plus speed of the competitors. I felt bad for the person who got badly injured and hope she gets better. I also really liked how competitive all of the players were.”
According to the official Olympic website, American skiier Lindsay Vonn crashed in a downhill race on February 8. Her left leg was badly injured.
