Day in Clay gave sixth graders at Patrick M. Villano School a chance to be creative. Some students made pots while others sculpted vases or cups. All designs followed a traditional Native American style and design.

Day in Clay was fun because we can’t do this that often in school, and I like clay,” Alexander Rhee, a sixth-grader, said.

Art teacher Wanda Lev opened her classroom to a college professor who teaches pottery. The Emerson PTA sponsors the event.

“Day in Clay was a very fun experience. I enjoyed it very much, and it was something different than our usual school art class,” Giovanni Cevallos said. “This session made me want to keep doing things with clay since now I have a little bit of background experience on how to do that stuff. It felt strange and satisfying to touch the clay and make my own vase. I would like to thank the people at Villano PTA and other people who made this all happen!”

The clay creations dried, students painted them, and brought them home.
