Everyone can participate and be creative. That’s the best part of Spirit Week at Patrick M. Villano School, according to sixth grade student, Alexander Rhee.

“I think Spirit week is a fun thing to do,” Rhee explained. “My favorite day of spirit week is ‘anything but a backpack’ day because it’s interesting to see what kids bring. For example, people brought suitcases and one person brought a present this year.”

Many students came to school wearing new daily trends. Monday was anything but a backpack; Tuesday was holiday PJ’s; Wednesday was Wacky Wednesd; Thursday was Hawaiian day; and on Friday students dressed like teachers, and teachers dressed like students. Student Congress members who are part of the Spirit Committee led by Vice President Joey Liguori, chose the themes for the week. Student Congress advisers, Breanna DeCarlo and Kristy Friedman, take it from there.

“Once the themes are selected and reviewed by Mrs. DeCarlo and me, we get final approval from Mrs. Espinoza,” Friedman explained.

She added that during spirit week, everyone can dress up, join activities, and show school pride. It helps make school more exciting, encourages teamwork, and creates a positive school community where people feel included and happy.

“This year it was nice that it was the week before winter break because it’s a fun way to end the year,” Rhee added.
