Students packed the auditorium at Patrick M. Villano School as student government officer candidates shared their vision for making school a better place. In a town hall format, Student Congress representatives wanting an officer position gave campaign speeches. Although there were no opponents, each student went through the election process.

Evin Shelton, a sixth grade student, is now the school historian.

“My job is about managing the social media page of the school, and I will send that information to Mrs. Espinoza [Principal Jessica Espinoza] and the social media manager from the Emerson Junior-Senior High School,” Shelton explained.

The historian position is a new one at the school. Shelton will document big events such as the school play and Field Day.

“I am very excited about being the historian. I will help the school become a better place because I care about all the students, the teachers and most importantly the school,” he said.

Matthew Bigos, a sixth grade student, is secretary.

“I plan to take notes [at meetings] and work with Canva. I am in charge of the Google Classroom for Student Congress,” Bigos said.

Maya Pineda, a fifth grade student, said she enjoyed hearing the campaign speeches from each student.

“They were all really confident,” Pineda said.
