Taking care of our planet is important. There are many ways to do it. For example, you can donate to organizations that remove plastic from the ocean. Making the Earth clean can be as easy as throwing your leftovers into the trash. Earth Day on April 22, 2024, is a way to remember the importance of our planet.

Mr. Marc Gussen, owner of the Closter Nature Center, shares his opinion on why Earth Day is so important for him, future generations, and everybody.

“It’s a way for us to really think of how we treat our Earth,” Gusen said. “It’s our home, and without it we couldn’t have anywhere to live!”

When we help our planet, it benefits us. Our planet will be less polluted and overall cleaner. When we recycle, we can  and save us a lot of plastic that can be used for other things. It also helps turtles and other ocean creatures from getting killed by trash we throw away.

“Earth day is very important due to the fact that you celebrate Earth,” Devin Travieso, a fifth grader, said. “I do a lot of recycling. Clean trash everywhere, especially in homes. Save the turtles!”

In honor of Earth Day, local Girl Scout troops have been planting flowers and other greens on the grounds of Memorial, Villano, and Emerson Junior-Senior High School. The girls removed weeds and sticks from flower beds.

“I think it is a great day to honor our beautiful earth,” Dayna Beahm said. She leads a local fifth-grade Girl Scout troop. “I love planting flowers and cleaning up areas that need to be cleaned up. I think Earth Day is important because we need to take care of the earth we live on.”

Earth is our home, and we have to take care of it. Remember, there is only one chance. We have to make the right choices. It’s not like we have an extra Earth. Keep recycling, reusing, and reducing. It doesn’t take much to help.
