It’s the time of year for New Year’s resolutions. That’s when you make a goal and a plan to accomplish that goal in the upcoming year.

Victoria Petry, a fifth-grader, has a resolution to become more active and “to do more sports” such as softball and volleyball.

Noah Justo, another fifth-grader, wants “to at least get everything right on a test in math.” He also has a plan to achieve that. “I’m going to work hard and listen as hard as I can,” Justo said.

Some people set their sights on creating healthier eating and drinking habits.

“My New Year’s resolution is to live longer,” Devin Travies, a fifth-grader, said.

The practice of making New Year’s resolution has been around for thousands of years.

“The ancient Babylonians are said to have been the first people to make New Year’s resolutions, some 4,000 years ago,” according to the History Channel online. The website continues to tell about how people promised the gods to pay off debts and return borrowed items, and this could be considered the first New Year’s resolutions.
