Band members at Patrick M. Villano School are in race to the finish. It’s not a musical race, and it’s not a running race, It’s a race to sell the most chocolate candy bars. Joseph Gibbs, the band teacher, has fifth-grade musicians going head-to-head in a fundraiser against sixth-grade musicians. Gibbs explains how he found the fundraising idea.

In all honesty, I found World’s Finest Chocolate [the fundraising company] from a quick Google search. I think I looked up like ‘best school fundraisers’ and they were one of the first companies to come up,” Gibbs explaied.

Gibbs said chocolate is delicious and it comes in flavors that can be appreciated.

“Last year was very successful,”  Gibbs said. “I am rooting for all chocolate to be sold. However, I will say that fifth grade is currently leading in sales by a good amount. Let’s go, sixth graders!”

William Espinoza is a sixth-grade student selling chocolate. He said that so far, he’s sold three boxes.

“I love it because people can socialize with their neighbors and get rewards,” Espinoza said.

He has eaten a little of his chocolate, so far, and he calls the chocolate crisp is his favorite because of the texture.
