It’s time to say, “Goodbye, summer.” The season of fall started on September 22. Students at Patrick M. Villano School are preparing to jump into a pile of leaves rather than a swimming pool. Others are ready to trade in their bathing suits for warmer clothing. There are pros and cons to this new season for many with one of the pros being the cooler weather.
“In the starting of fall, I wear shorts and a sweatshirt, but towards the end I wear pants,” said Theo Duffy, a sixth-grader. “My favorite part of fall is my birthday. My least favorite thing about fall is when my allergies get really bad.”
Stefan Dib, a sixth grader, agrees that the change in weather is something to consider.
“I think I would rate fall an 8 out of 10 because it is not too hot and not too cold which is perfect, but school starts now, so I’m more busy,” Dib said. “My favorite thing to do in fall is play soccer and my least favorite thing to do is to go back to school.”
Fall is a time when leaves to start changing colors. As they do and fall to the ground, people can rake leaves for friends, family, and neighbors and maybe earn a little bit of money with it as well.
“I like to rake leaves in the fall and jump into the pile,” Sophia Earle, a sixth-grader said. “My least favorite thing in the fall is staying inside. I’d rather go outside and sit under trees because the weather gets nice.”
Another outside activity is to go pumpkin picking and carve a pumpkin with someone you enjoy. Many families carve pumpkins as a tradition in the fall and some even compete to see who can carve the best pumpkin. Another pro of autumn, according to some students, is its holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving. A con stated by other students is that the sun rises later and sets earlier which means the days are starting to get shorter.
