Mrs. April Catuogno, Adviser

The Villano View adviser, April Catuogno, is a proud alumni of the Emerson Public School District, and is forever a Cavo at heart. Catuogno was class president her sophomore, junior, and senior years at Emerson Junior-Senior High School. She participated in volleyball, track and field, and various clubs. Catuogno has always loved reading and writing. After high school, she attended Marist College where she earned degrees in both Communications and Political Science. The college bestowed upon her the prestigious Alumni Leadership Award. Then, Catuogno earned a Master’s in Journalism from Northwestern University. For the next dozen or so years, worked as a television reporter/anchor/producer and newspaper/radio reporter in various markets, especially in the tri-state area. Catuogno still flips through the top stories on all major news stations in the New York City television market at 6 p.m. – that is if she’s not reading a good book, watching her children play football, or grading student papers. She adores her two boys, Marcus, 14, and Julius, 12, and her dogs, Brooklyn and August. Catuogno and her husband, Marc, have known each other since high school. They both grew up in Emerson, share several of the same friends from town, and even went to the junior prom together in the cafeteria of Emerson Junior-Senior High School. There’s a lovely photo of the young couple in her current classroom. Catuogno was awarded the Quill Award from the Garden State Scholastic Press Association in recognition of her work as an adviser, teacher and speaker and for her support of the advancement of student rights. Catuogno serves on the Executive Board of the GSSPA. This year, she took her newspaper club members to the GSSPA’s Fall Student Conference where they were honored as the youngest journalists present.
