It’s that time of the year again … NJSLA testing. The New Jersey State Learning Assessment is given to all public school students starting in third grade.
Zoey Saudino is a third grader at Memorial School. She’s taking the test for the first time this year.
“I’m nervous because it’s my first time with testing, and I just want to try my best. The reason I’m nervous is because I’m scared I won’t do well on it, but I just want to do well,” Saudino said. “I think I’ll do best on reading and writing (ELA) because I’m better at reading and writing than math.”
Teachers prepare their students for the test. Elisabeth Hill is a fifth grade math teacher at Patrick M. Villano School.
“To prepare for NJSLA, I give spiral reviews to practice for the math problems and get used to the students working on the computer and using scrap paper,” Hill said.
For students in grades 5, 8, and 11 there is a science part of the NJSLA, too.
