Mrs. April Catuogno, Adviser
The Villano View adviser, April Catuogno, is a proud alumni of the Emerson Public School District, and is forever a Cavo at heart. Catuogno was class president her sophomore, junior, and senior years at Emerson Junior-Senior High School. She participated in volleyball, track and field, and various clubs. Catuogno has always loved reading and writing.
After high school, she attended Marist College where she earned degrees in both Communications and Political Science. The college bestowed upon her the prestigious Alumni Leadership, Communications, and Political Science awards her senior year. Then, Catuogno earned a Master's in Journalism from Northwestern University. As part of the graduate program, she covered politics in Washington, D.C., for 1040 WHO News Radio in Des Moines, IA, and WCAX-TV in Burlington, VT. For the next dozen or so years, she worked as a television reporter/anchor/producer in New York City; Scranton, PA; Binghamton, NY; and Elmira, NY.
Catuogno was awarded the Quill Award from the Garden State Scholastic Press Association in recognition of her work as an adviser, teacher and speaker and for her support of the advancement of student rights. Catuogno served on the Executive Board of the GSSPA. She's taken her newspaper club members to the GSSPA's Fall Student Conference where they were honored as the youngest journalists present. Catuogno was also one of 40 national winners of the "1 for All First Amendment Challenge" sponsored by the American Society of News Editors for her First Amendment lesson plans.
Catuogno now teaches fourth grade at Patrick M. Villano School. She advises this school online newspaper as well as the Chess Club. In her spare time, she likes to bake, hike, and garden.
