Patrick M. Villano School is kicking off the new academic year with a new type of club: Homework Club. Hosted by Amanda Binetti, school social worker, the Homework Club is a before and after school program where students can quietly complete their homework independently with guidance.
“Homework Club used to be a regular event at Villano School once a week in previous years,” Benetti said. “ Over the summer, I was inspired to start a Homework Club again when I found my Homework Club permission slip.”
There are different sessions each week. Mondays and Wednesdays are for fourth graders only during their recess period from 12:20 t 12:50 p.m. Anyone from any grade level can attend on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:15 to9 8:40 a.m. The club is also open on Wednesdays from 3:10 to 3:40 p.m. but it’s required that students receive direct invitation from their teacher in order to attend. A permission slip from the teacher is mandatory.
“I joined it because on Wednesday because I have a soccer game, and on Mondays I do it, so I don’t have to do it when I get home,” Nicholas Aramini, a fourth grader, said about the club.
“It helps me get my homework done before I get home on basically any day, like Tuesday and Thursday,” Micheal D’Auria, a sixth grader, said.
D’Auria thinks that the Homework Club is good for getting your homework out of the way so that you have some free time when you get home. It opens up time to play with friends or just hang out after school, without worrying about homework.
Binetti adds that it’s important that students should be prepared to do their own work and not expect a tutoring session. If you have any questions about this club Binetti said to speak with her in person or email her at [email protected].
