The votes are in! Students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade decided who would represent their homerooms in the Patrick M. Villlano Student Congress this school year.
“It’s fun listening to the candidates’ speeches about how they will represent their classes as Student Congress members,” Kristy Friedman, Student Congress adviser and Digital Citizenship teacher said. “Voting is exciting, too, because everyone has a chance to make their voices heard.”
The election took place in homerooms on Thursday, October 9, and Friday, October 10, 2025. For fourth graders, this was their first time voting in a school election. Most of the time, there are two representatives per homeroom, but there can be three representatives in case of ties. This makes for a friendly but nerve-racking competition between students.
“I feel excited to be a part of this year’s Student Congress,” Matthew Bigos, a sixth graders said. “It feels good to be able to share my ideas and to be able to change Villano in a good way.”
Students were told the results right before they started their weekend on Friday, October 10. Student Congress’s first meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 15.
“ I am really looking forward to working with this year’s Student Congress. We already have our first meeting agenda set and can’t wait to hear the new ideas this year’s representatives have,” said Friedman about Student Congress this year.
All students can look forward to special events like spirit weeks taking place throughout the school year.
