Take a Kid to Work Day is a popular day in Emerson. It’s a day where parents call their child out from school to visit their workplace. This year, April 24 is the day when many students at Patrick M. Villano School will explore job opportunities at a parent’s workplace. One of those students is Lucas Benefield, a 6th grader.
“I am very excited. I’m going into the city with my dad,” Benefield said. His dad works for a technology company called SAP Signavio.
Elizabeth McClafferty, the 6th grade Science teacher, reflected on the day.
“I loved having my daughter, Fiona, all day. It was a lot of fun,” McClafferty answered.
Many students were excited to meet her because McClafferty talks about her children a lot in class.
“It was nice to put the face to the name of someone they heard a lot about,” she said.
Students who did not attend work with a parent completed schoolwork and caught up on other tasks.
Bring a Kid to Work Day is advertised on the U.S. Department of the Interior webpage. It’s the fourth Thursday of April each year. This year’s theme was “For a New Generation.” This idea is to show kids different role models in different workplaces.
