Now that the curtain has closed on the final performance of Seussical, Jr., students and staff involved in the play at Patrick M. Villano School, can reflect on their work. Joseph Gibbs, band director, felt thrilled about the performances. He shared his feelings before opening night.
“I am super excited for the show! It takes a village to run a production, and I cannot stress the amount of love, effort, and hard work that was put into Seussical Jr. by so many individuals,” Gibbs said.
Seussical, Jr. is about various characters created by the famous children’s author, Dr. Seuss. Characters include Mayzie LaBird, Gertrude, and Horton the Elephant. Lucas Benefield played a member of the Who family. He explained his feelings before stepping on stage.
“I’m excited because getting into costume is really fun, and running through the whole thing gives you a chance to get a break in the middle,” Benefield said. “I am also excited to see people and what they think of it.”
The play took place on April 9 and 10, 2025. Anaya Modi, a sixth-grader, played the Sour Kangaroo. She said that preparing for the final show took a lot of work and training.
“Even though we learned five songs in the last week of tech week [last year], it was horrible, but this year, we did not do that, so we’re a bit better, but it’s hard,” Modi said.
The smaller roles still have to prepare with just as much effort as the main ones, stated cast members, but after all the hard work, many performers decided it was still a fun and exciting experience.
