Now that it’s April, the popular sport of baseball is back in track for its 149th season. Many exited fans looked forward to opening day on March 27, 2025, which is a bit earlier than usual. According to ESPN online, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites to win the World Series followed by the New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, and New York Yankees.
Fernando Cuzco , a Mets fan and sixth grader at Patrick M. Villano School, is excited for the baseball season.
“I think the Mets will do extremely well,” Cuzco said. “I hope they make the World Series with the Juan Soto edition, but even if they don’t I’m excited for the season and the World Series.”
According to the Major League Baseball’s website, Soto playe for the San Diego Padres, and the Yankees before beoming a free agent, then signing with the Mets in 2024.
Many teams are off to hot starts like the Padres (15-4), Dodgers(14-6), and Giants (13-6), while some teams are cold like the Rockies (3-15), Braves (5-13), and White Sox (4-14). Despite the slow and fast starts, it is still early in the season and many teams could falter or make the postseason.
Joe Polvere, a long-time Yankees fan, think the Yankees are off to an okay start.
“They are lucky to be in a weak division so far. I think their record will be 90-62. Right now, I think the Yankees and Padres will play in the World Series, and the Padres winning in 6,” Polvere said.
