The verdict is in – the new Mock Trial club is a hit.
Meagan Pritchard, the 6th grade ELA teacher, organized this student club where you pretend to be in a courtroom and create arguments like in real life.
“I started Mock Trial because I wanted to offer something different for our Villano students,” Pritchard said, “I noticed we had a lot of students who loved debating and arguing, so I said, ‘Why not?’ I also love writing and reading, so it was a no-brainer.”
Caden Castillo, a sixth grade student, is one of several students who signed up for the club.
“I did Mock Trial because it looked extremely fun. It was new, and I wanted to try something new. We could pretend we are lawyers which seemed very fun and better than that we get to argue with the teacher!” Castillo stated.
Students will do a combination of debates and court scenarios. Each student will have a specific role, whether that be judge, jury, or witness.
“We’re also going to be practicing our public speaking skills,” Pritchard stated.
Pritchard hopes to have a lot of fun with this idea, and so do the students. The club meets after school in Room 24.
