Mia Wilson started dancing when she was just two years old. When she was three, Wilson joined a competitive dance team. She’s been dancing and loving it ever since then.

“I practice every day and I make sure to never give up. I love to dance to my best ability,” Wilson explained.

Wilson takes tap, ballet, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, and ballroom classes at Studio L in Waldwick, New Jersey.

“I dance because it makes me feel happy,” Wilson explained.

One day at dance rehearsal, Wilson was picked to audition for Derek Hough’s “Dance for the Holidays Tour”. She sent in videos and photos during the audition process.

“I liked dancing with Derek Hough because I got to experience dancing with him on stage with my best friends, and I had a lot of fun meeting the cast crew, stage crew, and meeting him and his wife Haliy for the very first time ever in my whole life,” Wilson said.

Wilson and her dance friends performed with Hough on November 3 in Connecticut. Hough has won four Emmys for choreography during his time on the ABC television show Dancing with the Stars, according to his online biography. His current project is called Dance for the Holidays.

According to the website for his show: “Fans will be thrilled and delighted as Hough and his cast of phenomenal dancers bring your favorite holiday tunes to life through dance, from the well sung classics to modern pop hits with all of the incredible choreography, exciting stage production and dance mastery that audiences have come to expect.”

Wilson’s fourth-grade friends are proud of her achievement.

“She’s very confident,” said Molly Lucas one of Mia’s classmates.

“Mia is a wonderful dancer. Her flexibility and positivity helps her dance amazingly,” Ariana Maknine, another classmate, said.

Wilson hopes to be a professional dancer in the future.

“You can be anything that you can dream,” Wilson said.
