Donald Trump won the U.S.presidential election by 86 electoral votes. His opponent Kamala Harris won 226 electoral votes and Trump won 312, as reported by various media outlets.
“This is a movement like nobody’s ever seen before and, frankly, this was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time. There’s never been anything like this in this country, and maybe the, and now it’s going to reach a new level of importance because we’re going to help our country heal,” Trump said in a televised victory speech.
The election was held on November 5, 2024. Trump will take office in January 2025. He prevously served as the country’s 45th president, as well.
“I think trump deserved to win because in my opinion he made America better than it was,” Alex Lang, a sixth-grader at Patrick M. Villano School, said.
Trump was born in Queens, New York, in 1946, and is a former real estate developer, according to his biography from the White House Historical Association,
Lincoln Bahng, a sixth-grader, followed the recent presidental election. Bahng also ran for president – president of Student Congress – and won. He shared his opinion of holding an important elected office such as president.
“I think that it’s a very important role because to be a president you need to be very respectful to others and just have to be a good person overall,” Bahng stated.
In the borough of Emerson, a few residents ran for council positions. Megan Ciolino and Ashleely Sayers ran against Kate Stutzel and Richard Dinallo. Ciolino and Sayers won.
“I think it’s important to be able to have a role of representing all of our community members … and having the best interest of all members including elderly adults and the children in town,” Ciolino stated.
Elections in Emerson are held in the all-purpose room of Patrick M. Villano School. After ID’s are checked, election volunteers direct each voter to a booth. Inside is a machine which records the vote. A paper with voting choices is then printed and inserted to a separate ballot machine.
Residents in Emerson also voted for the position of U.S. Senator. Candidates were Andy Kim, Curtis Bashaw, Kenneth R. Kaplan, Patricia G. Mooneyham, Christina Khaul, and Joanne Kuniansky. Kim has been a U.S. Represenatative for New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district as a U.S. Representative for five years. He lives in Moorestown with his wife and two little boys, according to his website.
