If you are looking for a good fright you’ve come to the right place. From spine-tingling books to bone-chilling films, this collection of scary will plunge you into a realm of fear and excitement.
Victoria Bright is head of the childrens’ room at the Emerson Public LIbrary. She’s responsible for programming and purchasing books and new materials for newborns to six-graders. Bright has been working at the library for 17 years.
“I got a kick out of how these are childrens’ books, and then they made a movie out of it, and it was really scary, and I was watching it with my parents and still we were kinda scared,” Bright said. “At the end, I told them it was a kids book and they didn’t believe me.”
Bright is talking about Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. It’s a series of three, short, scary books for children. The first two are called Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and the third one is Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones. These books were written by Alvin Schwartz. They feature many horror short stories that will shake you to your bones. A movie based on the book was made in 1968 a few years after the first book was released. The twists and turns will leave you wanting more.
Megan Pritchard is the sixth-grade Language Arts teacher, and she loves a good kick out of a scary book or movie.
“My favorite story from the series Stories To Tell in the Dark was “The High Beams” story,” Pritchard said. “I read it when I was a kid, and I still think about it when I drive at night.”
The story “The High Beams” is based on an urban legend. It involves a woman driving in her car, but she’s being followed by another vehicle.
These books and movie will scare the bones out of you.
