Every year, the Elementary PTA at Patrick M. Villano School holds a book fair that sells more than books. This year was no exception. There were also posters, pointers, pencil toppers, erasers, and notebooks on the shelves. Fifth grade reading teacher Breanne DeCarlo enjoys the book fair.

“I love reading and discussing texts, especially with fifth graders. It is always exciting to listen to their interpretations, and I am always thrilled to hear a brand new perspective on a text I’ve read countless times before,” DeCarlo said.

A fifth grader, Leo Fernandez Pineiro, said he likes to read because it’s fun.

“My favorite book is The Silver Eyes by Scott Cawthon. I like books because they teach us about history and they’re funny,” Pineiro said.

Other students don’t have a favorite book, rather a favorite series.

“I don’t have a favorite book,” Nicholas Benvenuto said. “All of the ones that I read are very good. I am planning to get the I Survived book from the book fair. A new one comes out every year, and I always buy them.”

Benvenuto is a fifth grader who enjoys reading.

“I feel like books are an enjoyable pastime because they can keep you absorbed for a long period of time. I like to read because it gives me a better sense of imagination, and I just like it overall.”
