Many dog owners consider their pet as more than just a four-legged friend.
“They’re like a therapist,” Michael Urban, a fifth-grader, said. “They make you feel a lot better.”
According to a group of pet doctors in England called Physio-Vet, petting a dog for just 5 minutes lowers the blood pressure by 10-percent.
My favorite part is “… when you pet dogs and how satisfying it is. I like when they’re happy,” Riley Torres said. The fifth grader agrees that dogs put people in a better mood.
“They make me feel comfortable, and they have tons of energy to play,” James Shammas, another fifth-grader, explained.
According to Daily Paws, a website for animal owners, dogs love their humans, too. They show love when wagging their tails and cuddling with their owners. To add on, scientists have used a fMRI machine to scan the caudate nucleus, a part of the brain, that shows that after some time dogs create bonds with their owners. There are many people who own a dog in the United States. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, 38.4% of households in the United States have at least one dog.
