In Westwood, New Jersey, there are all sorts of places to drop in and eat, but two especially good ones are 1950 Originals and Milk N Cookies.
At 1950s Originals, there’s a very vintage feel. It’s located at 325 Broadway in Westwood. When it’s very busy, a touchscreen menu is given to clients at the back of the line. One of the specials is called the pineto cheese dog. It includes a subtle sweet and salty taste and a nice crunch from bacon bits. Another special hotdog is called the chili dog. The hotdog has chili with potato sticks and a side of “something else sauce” which is delicious. The french fries are crispy and have lots of flavor, too.
“My favorite dish is the cheeseburger,” Danny Fabian, store manager, said. “My favorite special is the Ginger Snap hot dog. We created the ginger snap hotdog in December for our special of the month. We bring lots of new interesting flavors and mix them together to create something new. We try to separate ourselves from everybody else.”
On busy days, they cook up to 200 burgers and 600 to 700 hot dogs.
“Next month’s special is going to be a burger that’s is Filipino inspired,” Fabian said.
If you’re looking for desert, go to Milk N Cookies at 146 Westwood Avenue. You’ll love smelling all the warm treats as you walk into the store. It makes you feel right at home. The plain vanilla milkshake is very thick and has a large straw. It’s creamy but not too sweet. The marshmallow Rice Crispy cake is soft and warm wth a nice texture. There are also many more options and flavors they have to offer.
“My favorite dessert here is oatmeal pie cookie and banana nut cookie butter,” Tosh said. “This is because it reminds me of my childhood when my mom used to make banana and apple bread for me.”
Tosh explained that the store serves cereal-infused cookies, ice cream and milk shakes. You can even order just a bowl of cereal.
“We also put different flavors for every season or holiday,” he said.
Both eateries have a unique style and both are worth another trip.
