Patrick M. Villano Elementary School will host its annual school play this fall which is the well known High School Musical. The school’s band teacher, Joseph Gibbs; the music teacher, Allison Beckley; and the guidance counselor, Amanda Binetti, will be running the show.
“I am looking forward to seeing it all come together. I love watching the actors and crew just start out and then slowly transform into the stars that they are,” Gibbs explains.
There will be over 50 people auditioning for the school play this year. That is a really big turnout. The four main roles are: Gabriella Montez, Troy Bolton, Sharpay Evans, and Ryan Evans.
“I chose the High School Musical as the play because the High School Musical has a relatable theme of individuality, self-image, and self-confidence,” Beckley said. “It also encourages audience members to remember that they can be more than just what others expect them to be.”
The performers will be giving their all from the beginning of November to the day of the show. Stage crew will only be open to sixth graders unless there aren’t many who sign up. Then fifth graders may participate and work backstage. Additional information will be available later in the school year.
“I am very excited for the musical. I had such a blast directing the musical last year with an immense amount of help from my co-director, Ms. Binetti, and choreographers, Mrs. Cottone, Mrs. Viggiani, and the many other amazing volunteers. I cannot wait to get back into it and continue to help the theater program as Villano grows,” Gibbs said.
“I’m sure everyone will do their best to make sure it’s a great show! It will be time consuming and a lot of hard work, but it all pays off in the end,” Beckley added.
