The spooky season of Halloween is almost here, so what is it all about? Lots of kids dressed up in costumes will be running around, having fun on October 31st, but candy seems to be the main attraction! We have asked the leaders of our school, Patrick.M Villano, what candies are their favorites, so let’s see what they have to say!
“Anything sour,” Jordan Shaw, a sixth grader states. “I like sour candy because sweet candies are too sweet and sour candies are fun to eat.”
Shaw claims that the best candies are the ones that give a punch of sourness into your mouth. There are lots of candies that give a sour sensation in your mouth such as Sour Patch Kids, Sour Skittles, and the famous Toxic Waste or Warheads. Shaw says that her favorite sour candy is Warheads or sour gummies. What about those who don’t like sour as much as Shaw? Ella Viggiani, a sixth grader, votes for chocolate.
“Jumbo sized KitKats are very tasty and sweet,” Viggiani says.
She loves the sweet flavor of the chocolate and the crunch of the wafer. They go together perfectly in her opinion, and the jumbo-sized one just makes it even better. Viggiani also recommends other sweet candies like M and M’s, lollipops, Airheads, and Nerd Gummy Clusters.
Whether you prefer sour or sweet or some other special candy, there’s no doubt candy is something these students look forward to on Halloween. However, candy wasn’t always the given treat. According to the History Channel online, cookies, fruit or nuts used to be handed out to the little ghosts and goblins. Then, candy manufacturers saw the profits and the benefits of wrapping treats for safety.
