The annual Week of Respect is a special week from October 2 to October 6 that is celebrated by all schools in New Jersey. At Patrick M. Villano School, students dressed in certain colors or a specific theme to represent respect for others.
“I think its good because you can show more respect to teachers, family members, and friends,” Morgan Houze said. The sixth grader was one of many students who participaed in the weeklong event.
According to a school memo shared with all school families, “We have planned a wide range of activities for the week, and our goal is to kick-off a year-long program of activities and lessons related to respecting ourselves, each other and our school. Students are invited to dress in the designated type of clothing that corresponds to the theme for that day.”
The the theme on Monday, October 2, was stomp out bullying, and students wore blue or denim in honor of World Day of Bullying. The theme on Tuesday, October 3, was respect others, and students wore fancy clothing for Picture Day. The theme on Wednesday, October 4, was respect yourself, and students wore their favorite color. The theme on Thursday, October 5, was respect your community and students wore their favorite team shirt. The theme on Friday, October 6, was respect you school, and students wore Cavo colors of red, white and black.
“I didn’t realize it was the Week of Respect,” Penelope Stolfe, a sixth grader, said, “but I think it’s important for people to celebrate.”
