Girl Scouts is for young girls to get more involved in their community. Every Wednesday after school, Troop 97608 meets in the art room of Patrick M. Villano School. Girls talk and complete a craft relating to what they were talking about in that meeting. For example, in October Troop 97608 will be going pumpkin picking at Stokes Farm in Old Tappan, New Jersey. Events are organized by troop leaders.
”I like to be a troop leader because it builds sisterhood and makes everyone feel included,” Dayna Beham said.
She has been a trooper leader for eight years. Beham said she truly loves Girl Scouts and all the girls in it. Dawn Congiusti, another troop leader, thinks of crafts to do with the girls. Congiusti has loved Girls Scouts since she was little.
“My favorite things about Girl Scout was all the crafts and when we went to the Senior Citizen Center and learned about what they did there,” Congiusti said. “I’ve been a Girl Scout for six years and a cookie mom for four years, but this is my first official year being a troop leader.”
Congiusti has carried some traditions to Troop 97608 from when she was a Girl Scout. For example, she has carried the tradition of saying the Pledge of Allegiance before starting a craft or lesson.
Troop 97608 has been around for about eight years, but this year it’s a little different because another group of girls, Troop 97609, merged with them. The girls from Troop 97608 hope to make more memories with Troop 97609 this year. Some of the girls have been involved with Girl Scouts since they were five years old.
