The school is alive with music

The return of the winter concert to Patrick M. Villano School brought smiles to the adults in charge of the event.

“The concert was a lot of fun,” Andre Baruch, the band director, said. “My favorite thing about the concert was that we were able to return to indoor, in-person concerts.”

Due to concerns about Covid, there was no concert last school year. However, this year there was both the traditional dress rehearsal at school and evening performance at the Emerson Junior-Senior High School.

Baruch conducted four bands at the Holiday Concert this year. These included two beginner bands, a beginner ensemble and the Villano Symphonic Band.

“I was thrilled to have everyone together and singing again since the start of the pandemic. It felt more special than usual,” Victoria Iopollo, the chorus director and music teacher, said.

She led the fifth and sixth grade chorus, as fourth grade didn’t have a chorus group this year.

“I also loved the fact that we had so many beginners, and even experienced band members get to experience performing for a large audience,” added Baruch.
