Two Schools, One Theme

March 2, 2020

Students in Patrick M. Villano and Memorial Schools kicked off Two Schools, One Theme today. During this special reading event, students in both schools will be reading books that reflect the same social-emotional themes. For grades 3 and 4, every child has received a copy of the book Wishtree by Newbery Award author, Katherine Applegate. Families are encouraged to read with their child at home each night. Every 5th and 6th grade child has received a copy of Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. Students will read the book with their Language Arts classes during the school day. “With this program, we aim to build a community of readers within our schools. Everyone – students, parents, teachers, even administrative staff – will be participating, and we can all reap the many benefits,” stated Principal Jessica Espinoza in an email to the Emerson Public School District.
