New socks for men, women and children are in need during the winter months.

Students at Patrick M. Villano School donated more than 300 pairs of new socks to the annual Student Congress sock drive. The drive helps those who are less fortunate.

“Donating socks is important because it is a daily need for people,” Kim Biggs said. Biggs is an adviser for the Student Congress. “Often, especially in winter months, many organizations run coats and boot drives, but often forget that socks are just as important in keeping people warm.”

Biggs said she’s grateful to all the people who helped with the driver, and she’s proud of how her Student Congress members promoted the fundraiser.

“We are also grateful to Mrs. [Jessica] Espinoza for sharing the information with families through her weekly newsletter and to the homeroom teachers for giving reminders to their students,” Biggs added.

Principal Espinoza sends a weekly email to all school families.

“We think the fact that we extended the collection from the typical one week to two weeks this year really helped us achieve this goal!” Biggs said. “We are lucky to live in a community full of generous people.”
