Snack attack

Students at Patrick M. Villano Elementary have new choices on the lunch line including chips and drinks.
“We did have more choices when students had the option to buy lunch,” explained Principal Jessica Espinoza, “but since lunch is free for all students this year it limited choices for what we could offer students.”
Espinoza is not certain if it’s a permanent change.
“This is really a decision by Pomptonian, our food-service provider. If I had to guess, I would imagine this will be a permanent change because it has been very successful,” Espinoza said.
Lea Wolhrab, a sixth grade student, approves of the new choices.
“I like the new snacks because if you want something extra with lunch or the lunch isn’t filling some students up then it can help,” Wolhrab explained. “I think the best snack is the chips like the baked Cheetos because I like them, and I think a lot of people do too, I also like the Gatorade.”
Ice cream will likely not make a return to the cafeteria, however.
“School districts are not permitted to sell items to students where sugar is the first or second ingredient and ice cream feel under this category,” said Espinoza.
