Sock it to Homelessness
December 1, 2021
One of the most needed items at area homeless shelters is socks. That’s why the Student Congress at Patrick M .Villano School decided to have a “Sock it to Homelessness” drive. Student Congress representatives are collecting new socks and even t-shirts.
“I like the sock-it drive because it gives back to people, and it helps people in need,” Emily Schneider said. “It gives back to our community and it benefits our town.”
“I like the Sock it to Homelessness drive because I like how it is during the holidays. It’s giving it to the homeless,” said Sayde Borenius, a fifth grade student.
All collected items are headed to the Housing Authority of Bergen Country in Hackensack, NJ. The authority will deliver the items to those in need this winter season. For some fourth graders, it’s their first community service project at school.
“I really like the sock-it drive because you donate, and it’s really cold in the winter. It will be really nice that people will be warm and it can affect their lives,” Tina Mateo Medina added.
The sock drive ends December 17.
