Making mom feel special
May 12, 2021
Mother’s Day is a day when people appreciate moms and motherhood. It’s celebrated every second Sunday of the month of May. Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1808 as a way to honor mothers for the sacrifices they make. Jarvis recognized that moms do so much especially for their children: care for them, feed them, help them. Mother’s Day didn’t officially become a holiday until 1914 in the United states, according to The History Channel online.
Students at Patrick M. Villano School celebrated with their moms this year on May 9.
¨… the day before [Mother’s Day] my sister, my mom and I got our nails done, and we went to the Melting Pot in Westwood,” Hailey Karathomas said. “It was really good, honestly.”
Karathomas, a sixth grade student, said the manicure and food was a gift to her mom for Mother’s Day.
“We take the time to celebrate Mother’s Day to show and honor her and show her we love her and everything she does for us,¨ Karathomas said.
Another sixth grader, Cole Drago, also treated his mom to a meal along with some other goodies.
“For Mother’s Day, I went out to dinner with my family. I gave my mom flowers, chocolate and cards. I take my time to celebrate because of all my mom does for me,¨ Drago said.
