These press cookies are made with lots of butter and sugar. Colorful sugar sprinkles decorate the top. These cookies are a holiday favorite.

One holiday tradition is very popular with Kim Biggs. The fifth-grade teacher at Patrick M. Villano School loves to bake family recipes with her mom.

“We have certain cookie recipes that we only bake over the holidays! I look forward to spending that quality time with my mom every year,” Biggs said. “My favorite holiday cookies are thumbprint cookies. They are sugar cookies filled with different flavors of jam. It is a recipe that was passed down from my grandmother. They are delicious!”

Biggs shares her treats with aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, even neighbors.

“It is a really simple way to show people you are thinking about them during the holidays…not to mention delicious.” said Biggs.

A fifth-grade student who goes to school in Manhattan, New York agrees.

“I love to bake, I love to see the ending result, and I love to watch the process,” the student said. “Overall my favorite thing to bake a cake. I like making cakes because there are a lot of different parts and ingredients to a cake.”

This student also enjoys baking other treats as well.

“I also love to make bread. I love to watch it rise and having to work with the dough is cool,” she explained.
