Students who opted for on-site instruction are six-feet apart in desks surrounded by Plexiglass on three sides. All students and staff wear masks.
The number of students who are learning virtually changes daily at Patrick M. Villano School. When school opened, 66 of the school’s 257 students opted for remote instruction. Sixth-grader Giana Kim is one of them.
“I feel like I focus more when I am at home, and that helps with schoolwork and tests,” Kim said.
Governor Phil Murphy closed schools across New Jersey on March 13 to protect students and staff from COVID-19. The Emerson Public School District opened its doors again to students on September 14. Families had a choice of either remote instruction or an on-site instruction with a school day ending at 12:15 p.m. Sixth-grader Mia Woodward also opted for remote instruction.
“I think the pros of being at home are that you don’t have to wear a mask and don’t have to be cautious of touching everything,” Woodward said.
