Spelling Bee winner

Array. As a noun, array is commonly defined as, “an impressive display or range of a particular type of thing,” according to one Internet source. Spelling that word correctly earned fifth-grader Aruwyn Connor first place at the recent Patrick M. Villano School annual spelling bee. Connor advanced to the regional spelling bee where she competed against fellow Emersonian, Tai Nakamura. Nakamura, now in eighth grade, also won the elementary bee at Villano when he attended a couple years ago. Nakamura has represented Emerson Junior-Senior High School at regionals for the past two years. This year, Nakamura won the regional and secured a spot at nationals. However, due to health concerns surrounding the coronavirus, the spelling bee finals have been cancelled. The bee website states: “The Scripps National Spelling Bee is suspending its national finals in National Harbor, Maryland. The suspension includes all in-person events and the live national broadcast the week of May 24. If possible, we will work with our local sponsors, spellers, convention partners and ESPN to reschedule the 93rd Scripps National Spelling Bee for later this year.”
