Sock it to homelessness
March 19, 2019
The Student Congress members at Patrick M. Villano School organized a fundraiser called¨Sock it to Homelessness¨. Students collected new pairs of socks to help people in need. The goal was to collect 200 pairs of new socks. The fundraiser nearly quadrupled that amount. In total, students donated 590 pairs of new socks.
Some Student Congress members made posters to help raise awareness about the drive and the needy people receiving the donations. Nicole Ferrante and Breanne De Carlo, Student Congress advisers, spoke about the wonderful job students did with the fundraiser at the Mr. O. Show in December.
“We knew this was a great cause but had no idea just how generous the students would be! We were blown away by how many socks they brought in!” Mrs. De Carlo said.
Julie Knie of Sock it to Homelessness, the local organization started by two brothers to collect socks for the homeless, also spoke to students at that Mr. O. Show. She said the students really made a difference to people in need and that the homeless people will be very grateful for the donations. During the cold and rainy season, many people request clean, dry socks.
