Two Schools, One Author

April 28, 2019

Children’s author Wendy Mass visited Emerson’s two elementary schools and recently spoke with students about reading and writing. Her visit on March 15 wrapped up the “Two Schools, One Author” event at both Memorial and Patrick M. Villano Schools.

The schools’ Reading Committees distributed different Wendy Mass books for this event. At Patrick M. Villano School, third and fourth graders read Bob, and fifth and sixth graders read The Candymakers. Students followed a reading calendar, and they were encourged to read with their families at night.

After students read a certain number of chapters, trivia questions were posed to answer for fun. There was one question for each book, and the question was asked on the Villano News Network (VNN) each morning. VNN anchors announced the names of winners the next day.

Memorial School students read a different Wendy Mass book and followed a similar reading calendar.
