Third-grader Santiago Gray won the Citizen of the Month award in January. He beams proudly holding his certificate.

Proud. That’s how third-grader Santiago Gray feels after winning the Patrick M. Villano School’s character award called Citizen of the Month for January.

“I know other people could have done it, but I know I did some good things too,” Gray said shortly after receiving his award at the monthly Mr. O Show.

Gray knew that he did good things to get the award but didn’t expect it to actually happen. Gray had an idea of how he earned the award.

“I tried to talk out of a lot of fights in my class,” Gray explained. “I will continue to do more good things in school.”

Teachers in each grade level nominate students who go above and beyond socially and emotionally in the classroom.
