Novel projects are truly “novel”

Sixth grade students just finished reading novels in the adventure fiction genre. Language Arts teachers April Catuogno and Brianna Peros offered a choice of four novels: Where the Red Fern Grows, Hatchet, My Side of the Mountain, and Bloomability. Students then presented special projects on the novels. Instead of writing a paper to show what they know, students created board games, photo albums, diary entries, artifacts, book jackets, comic strips, and one-act scripts based on important plot elements.
